Chicken Series Part I: Peri Peri Chicken

Mon and I finally got our chance to try Peri Peri Chicken last weekend when we went to Greenhills.

The interiors was well lit and cozy. Tables were a bit small though. The full length mirror to one side of the restaurant helped give the interiors a more spacious effect.

We each ordered the 1/4 chicken with 2 sidings. I picked the mild chicken while Mon chose the Lemon and Grass chix.

For me, prices are a bit too high for the serving size, the chicken included. Moreso for their desserts.

One of Mon's side dishes, tha macaroni soup, came ahead of the rest and he enjoyed it while it was warm. He said it was nothing really special, but good enough.

The rest of our chosen side dishes came: coleslaw, buttered corn and carrots and mashed potatoes.

The coleslaw turned out to be the best, for me, that is.

This was the spit fire grilled 1/4 chicken. It was tender, juicy and well cooked... well flavored. The mild turned out to be still too hot for me so Mon and I exchanged orders.

The sauces on the table for an even hotter experience.

Peri Peri Chicken was good, not that great, but good enough for a new chicken experience. It would probably be a long while before we come back for seconds.

KFC's Famous Others

I have never tried any of KFC's desserts. But reading and hearing so much rave about them made me visit KFC and order just them, the famous others.

It is not surprising that this little nugget is well liked. It was chewy, tasty and with just the right amount of sweet chocolatey goodness. The size is just right for me. Any bigger than this would be 'umay' na for me.

Who could resist such delightful treat!

Three layers of sweet delight. The chocolate mousse comes in this small plastic cup. Chilled and ready.

The cake layer was a bit too chilled, though. Too firm. The other layers were not too sweet. I would have wanted them a bit more. And the top creamy layer could use a little more creaminess. Little as it was, I wasn't able to finish my little cup.

I was supposed to try the desserts but this is what I ended up raving about! Mushroom soup! It was warm and tasty. There was enough mushrooms and croutons to make it one filling small bowl of soup. I wasn't expecting to like it but I did. I will definitely come back for my second bowl.

Sbarro

Sbarro serves good italian food. It is relatively cheaper than most italian restaurants around town, but good enough.

(Market Market branch in Taguig)
The interiors are well lit and bright. Clean and tidy. Table arrangement is a bit cramped, though. Self-serve... thank god for fast and efficient food crew.

Pasta and Pizza remain to be the main stars of the menu. These are the pasta choices and the sauce types to choose from (tomato, white and meat), available in whole or half size.

Healthy eaters would love their salad treats.

Mon ordered his spaghetti with meat sauce topped with eggplant parmigiana. It's the half baked ziti in white sauce for me. We keep coming back. And this would surely be not our last.

Macadamia Nut Shortbread

My sister in law who lives in Honolulu, Hawaii introduced us to this. Everytime she visits us, she never fails to bring several boxes of Kauai Koookie's Macadamia Nut Shortbread for us. And the first time we tasted it, we already fell in love with it.

They look like your ordinary butter cookies, but a bite is all it takes to let you know that they are so not. And once you start, it takes a lot of effort just to stop.

Too bad that each box contains only 7 cookies. Bitin!

Gumbo

I can't believe I forgot to blog about Gumbo! This set of photos has been in my Pictures folder waiting to be posted and I never got to doing it! Tumatanda na ata ako, hahaha...
Anyway, we were looking for a good place to dine at Mall of Asia the night before my bilas was set to head back to Hawaii. We initially wanted to try Highlands Steakhouse but it was packed. We walked some more and saw Gumbo.

The interiors was impressive. Spacious, high ceilings, adequate lighting and clean.

I took shots of some interesting table fixtures while waiting for our food.

Watch as your food gets prepared in the kitchen, just nearby. Hear the chefs shout "Jambalaya!!!" whenever one order of it gets done!

For starters , complimentary bread was served with this garlic dip. Simply mash the garlic with a small piece of the bread and enjoy. (Personally, I prefer the complimentary bread of Italianni's with basamic vinegar to this.)

One by one, the huge platters of food came...

Seafood platter....... yummy! This had everything... prawns, clams, mussels, fish, squid, corn, cajun fries!

Their steak was a bit tough but was delicious.

This was definitely the star of the night... the Baby Back Ribs. This was soooo good.... tender and juicy.

This is the aftermath of the storm that was....

Our smiles say it all. Happy faces, happy tummies!

Cute Kid

No, she is not mine. I do not even know her name! A friend sent me a link to her YouTube videoclip entitled Wutever Kid. I am glad I clicked on the link because she is one adorable tiny tot!

It is amazing how our young ones could imitate what they see and hear almost anything and anyone around them!

Not a day passes by without me visiting her link... She manages to cheer me up each and every time.

Longganisang Alaminos

I wasn never adventurous in trying the different longganisas of the country. I just hear about Vigan, Baguio, Lucban longganisa, among others, from people who actually enjoy them and have lots of happy tales to tell. I was then content with my skinless sweet longganisa off from the grocery racks, not knowing how much I was missing.

It is a good thing my suki in Greenhills tiangge was able to convince me to try the Alaminos Longganisa she was selling. What caught my attention to this variety was the way toothpicks or wooden sticks were used to divide the sausages instead of tieing the ends. A dozen sells for P100.

After washing, I cut the sausages to separate them before cooking. I boiled them in a little water and added oil to cook them completely when all the water has evaporated.

This goes so well with even just vinegar. It has a very simple taste, a bit sour but just right. Not salty, not sweet. It was one of the better breakasts I have ever had.

KFC

When busy weeks strike, take-out and food delivery save the day for me. Kentucky Fried Chicken has the original recipe and the hot and crispy recipe. It is always the original recipe for us, 2 piece meal for Mon with an extra order of rice, and 1-piece meal for me.

Their chicken pieces have definitely shrunk in size, but the taste, I must say, is still finger-linkin' good.

The gravy is the perfect partner for the chicken.

The side dishes of KFC are not bad either! We always order 2 large macaroni salads with our chicken. This is my favorite side dish. Cooked just right, with the the perfect blend of dressing and garnish. Love this!

Their coleslaw is another mainstay in our order. I like the way their cabbage is shredded into small bits. Easier to enjoy. The dressing is more sweet than tart, just the way I want it.

I don't know why they don't package this as Kentucky Fried Chicken anymore though it is the same corporation. But it doesn't really matter as long as they remain as finger-lickin' good as they used to be.
If you had a busy day and caught in traffic going home, and too tired to cook, this is the number to call.
