Once again, the simplicity of the ice cream is what I like about it. The flavors are so distinct, yet so balanced that they blend so perfectly in every spoonful. One flavor complements the other so well that they don't overpower one another. Well, chocolate and strawberry, be it in ice cream form or otherwise, do fit together like hand and glove, anyway.

But really, when it comes to ice cream, personally, having grown up with Magnolia, no one does frozen delights as well as they do.

Snacku Rice Crackers

This is probably one of the underrated snacks around. I like its taste and flavor. It is crisp. It stays crisp. And it doesn't taste too 'junky'. Plus, it is green! It does get a bit messy, though, when you're scraping near the bottom of the bag. By then, the tips of your fingers would be coated with green gunk. But who cares! I just wipe or lick 'em off and grabe me self another bag.

My bad. I forgot to blog about this and I cannot understand why! I've even forgotten most of the names of the food we had that day when we celebrated my hubs' birthday in December last year. Food this good should have been "shared" right away! :) Anyway, it is better to be late than never.

I am not a very adventurous person when it comes to food. I usually prefer my old favorites to new ones. That is unless a much raved, tried and tested restaurant like Cyma gets recommended by friends I trust. And my friends are seldom wrong. ;)

Hummus with Pita bread...

Cyma Ceasar, was this? Anyhow, this was fresh, crisp and tangy good!

Meet our main dishes... we had baked salmon (Psari Fournou).... Short Rib Beef Stifado...

Pork Souvlaki and Lamb Chops...

And for the sweet tongue, it is Skolatina, Cyma's Molten Chocolatecake! The different textures and flavors blend together to give one that gustatory treat! And that roasted chestnut sauce is just divine.

I wish I had photos of the Flaming mangoes we ordered for the birthday boy but I only had a video that showed the servers shouting "Opa!" as they served it. It wasn't just the presentation. The mangoes were delicious, too!

I think it might be tough to find another Greek restaurant in the Metro that's this good.

"Dynamite" is simply siling pang sigang and cheese in a roll, deep fried. I made my own at home after I tried it at a suking street vendor the other day and really really liked it! His version had a little meat inside each roll but I wanted to make mine simpler but a lot cheesier, more similar to Kitchen Cow's version. And no, it wasn't good... it was smokin' hot good! And this is Tinomok. Similar to Laing but it has a lot of meat. More of meat wrapped in gabi leaves, actually. I sometimes order this To-Go when we get cravings. Glad to note that Gerry's Grill's food quality hasn't changed.

Burgoo II

We try our best to come back for more good food at restaurants we enjoyed dining in to try the other items on their menu. Burgoo is one of them.

Manhattan's Best salad had red apples, pineapple bits, croutons and honeyed walnuts in a bed of crisp lettuce with light dressing... pretty good. generous servings...

N'awlin's Classic Platter turned out to be very similar to their Jambalaya... still good, though. But, honestly, I could hardly tell the difference.

Prices seem to be getting steeper and steeper. I think a third trip would not be anytime soon.

Rai Rai Ken, Again

We were happy that Rai Rai Ken opened a branch at SM Bicutan! We were already running out of places to dine in at SM Bicutan and RRK is a welcome addition to the mall!

We were extra happy with the restau's opening promo deal ..... for every single order of their Gyoza (either 3 pcs or 6 pcs/order), you get their huge bowl of ramen of your choice at 50% off!

And so we did! Hubby and I shared an order of their Gyoza (6 pieces) which was delightfully good and filling! I love the sweet salty soy dip that came with it.

The seafood ramen we picked was big enough for sharing! We asked for two extra bowls and split the ramen. Hot and delicious, we finished everything in no time! The ramen was rich in flavors of the sea.... shrimps, squid, clams, different kinds and colors of seafood balls!

It was a very hearty and filling meal for two. At only less than php300, (already with a soda for each of us) it was really worth the visit.

My hubby is into bikes and biking these days. He has actually assembled his first one ever and is mighty proud about it! He brought me to one of the bike shops in Manila the other day where he bought something he had to add to his baby.

Only then did I realize that bikes come in different sizes and shapes and brands and models!

It even amazed me that bikers have these many accessories and even outfits to choose from that go well with their hobby!

They don't come cheap, though; exactly why I will leave biking to my hubby.

But if you are a bike enthusiast at heart, then Iron Bike is one place you will be thrilled to visit.

The least we can do is make sure they are well kept and well protected. For my digicams, Case Logic is the only option. I love the designs and the materials used.

The size almost had me fooled. Good thing I read a lot of reviews about this little camera and ended happy with what I read. It had all of the features I want in a camera that I can take with me every day.

Small.... simple buttons.... enough control over my shots.... and, yes, full HD videos!

This tiny little gadget is the perfect partner for my 550D. As they say, "wala sa pana yan, nasa indian!"

I made the switch. It used to be only Creamsilk conditioner for my chemically treated hair. But when a friend suggested that I try Pantene's Total Damage Care Intensive Treatment, I followed her advice and was happy with the result.

My dry, stiff, chemically relaxed hair was definitely more manageable, softer, and more 'bagsak' now. I think I will stick it out with Pantene from now on.

Bacolod Chicken Inasal

It was a rainy Sunday last week when we went to see the Orchid Show at the Quezon Memorial Circle. For lunch, we decided to eat at Bacolod Chicken Inasal right at the Circle's grounds.

We liked the ambiance. It was bright and roomy with high ceiling and glass windows surrounding the entire restaurant. And again, set meals are offered which makes ordering for a group of people much much easier.
The set meal we chose was super sulit. We each had, of course, chicken inasal, and we got to choose the chicken part we preferred.

We ordered two pechos and two legs.

Their chicken was meaty and cooked well. Tender and juicy.

The set meal came with a bowl of molo soup for four. Hot and tasty. And a sizzling plate of bangus sisig which was suprisingly good!

The set meal didn't come with a vegetable dish, though, so we opted to order their chopsuey, not the best looking nor tasting chopsuey around, but was good enough. We washed everything down with glasses of iced tea; yes, still part of the set meal.

Ending the meal, and included in the set was buco pandan for each of us. Again, not the best tasting buco pandan around, but the sweetness helped cap off the meal . I would think paying only a little over a thousand bucks for this entire set was so worth it.

Should you decide to dine there, don't forget to check out their corner of Bacolod's famous delicacies. You would surely grab a bag or two of this and that.

Mann Hann Revisited

There are restaurants you love going back to. And there are those you swear never to. Mann Hann is one restaurant we enjoy revisiting over and over. We almost have a readied set menu of our favorite dishes we have grown to love thru the years. And it never fails to fill our tummies with delight every time.

We sometimes vary our pancit order... alternating from cha bihon to chami to seafood chami to miki bihon.

CD-R King's Mini USB Keyboard

The backspace key was the first to go. It was not much of a hassle at first, since by hitting the arrow keys combined with the delete button, I was able to work around the problem. But soon enough, most of the keys on the upper right corner of the board stopped working altogether. I tried every DIY thing I could but nothing worked. I finally gave up and decided to get a mini usb keyboard from cd-r king.

Don't let the small size fool you. The really tiny keyboard had everything a standard keyboard had! Typing could be a bit tricky, though, because of its size, but as long as it works and isn't adding bulk to my netbook when stuffed inside the laptop bag, I could live with that.

It even came with its own retractable usb connector.

I thought about buying a new keyboard for my netbook, but that would set me back P2000. I wasn't willing to shell out that amount on my seldom used back up laptop just yet. So, for P800, I opted to get this instead. Ergo, my netbook is up and running once more. Thanks to this mini usb keyboard, surfing is once more anytime, anywhere.

I needed my Pringles Cheezums fix the other day but SM Bicutan didnt have 'em on their shelves so I decided to give Lays Stax a try.

I had a much easier time opening its seal than Pringles'.

Actually, they do taste the same. Sarap. But I find Pringles crisps much thinner and crispier. Nevertheless, we weren't able to stop when we popped! :)

McDonalds Apple Pie

I can't remember the last time I had this.

Packaging design has changed but it still has that warning that says the filling is hot.

I am not sure if it has shrunk in size, but it seems to have. And the filling, too. I know it must have been years since I last had this, but I think the taste has stayed pretty much the same as it used to. Same old sweet and tangy apple bits in their signature applesauce with that hint of cinnamon.

Magnolia Mango Iced Tea

I thought it was going to be easy placing my order... But when I saw how much toppings there were to choose from, I couldn't make up my mind!

Vigan Longaniza

I used to like only the sweet style hamonado longganisa. That was until I was able to try Vigan longganisa. It was everything the hamonado longganisa was not. It was garlicky, bland with a little hint of saltiness, peppery... and definitely not a bit sweet! And to my surprise, I actually liked it! And since then, I have been having cravings every so often. And whenever I do, I just rush to Greenhills to buy me a pack of Gonzales Vigan Longaniza.

A dozen a pack for php130. Each piece tied together to form one long line of sausages. I separate them before cooking, wash them, and boil them in a little water until the water cooks the longganisa thru and is totally reduced.

For the final step, when all the water is evaporated, I add a little oil and cook the longganisa some more until they're golden brown.

Budin: Buddy's Cassava Cake

Thanks to Kitten for recommending this cassava cake from Buddy's which they call 'budin'. I was lucky to catch a fresh batch that was still warm from the oven. It was wrapped in a clear plastic and placed in a Buddy box, all ready to go.

The budin didn't disappoint! It was really deliciously good.. soft, smooth and creamy, has just the right sweetness. I miss the chewy gritty lumpy type of cassava cake, though.

Bite after bite, the entire cake was gone in no time!

Make Every Cent Count

I carry a coin purse in my bag now where I dump all my loose change in, from 5 centavo coins to 1 peso coins. This is the best way I can avoid getting shortchanged by groceries and meatshops whose favorite line these days seems to be "Ma'am, kulang po ako ng 25 cents... or 10 cents... or 5 cents..."!

The rest of my 5 and 10 peso coins go straight to my piggy bank. Yes, I still keep one! Afterall, one is never too old to save up for the rainy season. :)

Hubby and I have been sharing a tub for dessert during lunch over the past few days.

It is truly addicting. It has gotten me craving for more and more.

Each bite is truly creamily delicious... with just the right amount of sweetness... the cream, the graham, the caramel and bananas all melding into one perfect bite each time.

I know it is quite easy to fix at home. But nothing beats the ease of enjoying a dessert anytime, anywhere specially when it is quick, cheap and oh so delicious as this!

Movie Night: Transformers 3

Hubby and I treated ourselves to a movie night of pure entertainment by watching Transformers 3. The computer graphics now keeps getting better and better; it is so hard to suspend your sense of reality while watching the movie because everything seems so true and alive! For as long as it was packed with entertainment value, which is how a movie with robots romping around the city should be, we were happy with it! Mini Stop's Burger Steak with Mushrooms

I passed by Mini Stop this noon to grab me a couple of drinks for lunch and saw this on their chilled section. I got curious and decided to try it and bought two trays for hubby and me.

The food was packed well in plastic trays with dividers; had a transparent lid where a production date and an expiration date tags are ; and each tray is provided with a set of spoon, fork and paper napkin!

The food trays were quickly heated while I was paying for them. And in just a few, I was on my way with my lunch all packed neatly in a bag, all warm and ready to eat!

How was the taste? It was alright, surprisingly. A decent meal for a very decent price at php48.00. When you are tight on a budget or in a hurry for a quick but hot and filling meal, Mini Stop might have what you need.

Coca Cola "Can" Glass

McDonald's brings back Coca Cola's glasses, this time in a much cooler design. The traslucent glasses are shaped liked your regular 12-oz. can and come in different colors. Get them all by adding P25. when you buy any of the combo meals.

I grabbed a pair right away. One in pink, and another in blue.

It is fun to use! It is like actually sipping coke from your can!

Goldilocks Beef Lasagna

Goldilocks is defnitely not just about cakes now. Its menu offers a lot of choices from pastas to rice meals and other desserts!

And for only P60++, you get small tray of warm, filling and tasty lasagna that is good for one. Definitely a great deal, if you ask me. It may not be the best lasagna in town, but it isn't bad at all. It even comes with a goldilocks bread roll.

Maybe I'll try their Baked Macaroni next time.

Knorr's Ginataang Gulay Mix

I saw this at the grocery the other day and I knew I had to try it. New products like this that help make kitchen life a lot breezier for housewives are always welcome. It saves time and money!

It is made of fine powder that is very easy to use. Mess-free, definitely.

The instructions are likewise very easy to follow. Even kids can understand the steps on the label.

How's the taste? The natural gata is definitely better but this cooking mix definitely came up with a more than decent Ginataang Sitaw with Shrimps. The dish turned out really good, actually! When pressed for time, I wouldn't mind using this again... and again.

Lunch at Burgoo the other Sunday was both filling and delicious. There were a lot of choices on their menu and it took us quite a while to decide which ones to order.

We were glad that the promo card my brother in law purchased was honored at their branch in SM North EDSA . It does work!

We leisurely doodled and drew on our placemats with crayons that were provided while waiting for our food. It is a cool idea, actually, specially if you have kids who might get bored while waiting.

Our Jambalay and Ribs and Shrimps and Ribs came! And we had a feast.

Using the promo card, we only had to pay for one of these scrumptious dishes! Plus, for every order of a glass of bottomless iced tea, you get another glass, free! Unbelievable, right!

The food we ordered was just enough for the four of us that lunch. The promo card is truly worth every cent. You get to enjoy lots of Burgoo's good food and drinks for much much less!

Alpo Variety Snaps Treats

Gilbey's Premium Strength

Just like Tanduay Ice, I tried a bottle of Gilbey's Premium Strength with Green Tea Extract for blogging's sake. I have read raves about these two drinks that I had to taste them for myself.

I loved the fizz it made when I poured it over ice cubes!

But even at only 7% alcohol content, this mix is already quite strong for me. I would have wanted it a bit more citrusy, more sweet. Well, I don't really drink. So I think my opinion doesn't really matter.

Our furbaby is now a furmommy! Margaux's waiting is finally over. After 63 days, she gave birth to 4 cute rottweiler puppies!

The birthing and the nurturing process were truly amazing to watch.

Margaux has superb mothering instincts.

And now, everyday, we watch as the puppies grow big and strong.

... from the day they start to breathe to the day they first opened their eyes...

Now on their first month of life, the puppies are learning to explore and socialize. And we are enjoying their company every single day. I hope they are, too.

I have always believed that not all good things are expensive. And this just proves it. It is very affordable at 145php; and does what it promises to. Conditions the lips and gives 'em a sheer pink tint.

It is just the right size for me. I want lip glosses small and compact so I could have a fresh new tube all the time. Big tubes take too long to use up and the wax just doesn't feel, taste nor smell nice anymore after a while.

I just wish it had spf properties.

KFC's Chicken A La King

For 90php, you can enjoy this Chicken A La King Supreme Bowl of KFC! I ordered this to-go for dinner and I liked it! The chicken slices were boneless, thus, were much easier to eat. Buttered corn kernels came with it on the side... and I love their mushroom gravy/sauce poured over the dish. I would have loved more of the gravy, though. Maybe I could get an extra serving of their mushroom gravy next time.

It is potato with a twist; literally, that is. :))

We were going to watch Thor at Market Market the other day and I went around the mall looking for a snack to bring with us inside the moviehouse.

I saw this Twistix Potato booth and got interested with the way the potato snack is presented.

Huge potatoes are sliced thinly in a corkscrew fashion like so, skewered and deep fried to a perfect crunch.

The potatoes sit for a while and are allowed to drip off excess oils; then they get the final touch... powdered flavor gets drizzled over them.

I can't wait for our next movie date if only to get another helping of Twistix Potato.

Starbucks' Cake Pops

Cake pops are the cutest things in dessertlandia these days. I purposely visited Starbucks just so I could try some. Three variants were available that day... the pink, the brown and the white ones. I was pretty sure the brown one was Rocky Road, but I forgot to ask what the pink and the white ones were called.

All the cake pops I bought were made of chocolate cake and were very very sweet! I was surprised that the icing wasn't brittle nor crumbly, but soft. The cake was very moist and chewy.

It was most certainly a sugar rush with every nibble... every bite. It was way too sweet for me. But it was fun to try.

Jollibee's Crispy Chicken Burger

Something new from Jollibee, again. Hubby tried it and he said it was okay. Nothing really special there, but okay.

When I asked how it tasted, he just simply said, "It is like chicken joy in a bun!" I loved Jollibee's Chunky Chicken sandwich before; I hope to try this one next time to see if I would love it just as much.

Tong Yang Shabu Shabu Restaurant

The buffet rates may have gone up since the last time we have been there, but it is good to know that the food choices and the quality have not changed.

I had so much on my plate already that I wasn't able to try their meat slicing station where you can get your meat cut up to your liking. Maybe next time.

The best part for me was still the grilling part where I got to dump in everything I got from the buffet into the smokeless grill and cook them in tons of butter to my desired doneness! (Go easy on the butter, though.) A pot of broth of our choice was given and brought to a boil on our stovetop where greens and meats and fish may be cooked, too, but I always prefer the griller to that.

All kinds of sauces are there to make your food even tastier and more delicious.

A meal would never be complete without dessert. You can either make your own, or pick your choice.

Tong Yang remains to be a great place to dine in.

Olay Soap

When sunblock and facial creams with spf are just not enough for extreme rays of the sun like this summer's, an umbrella is still a girl's best friend.

But finding the perfect umbrella is not that easy. My umbrella has to be the perfect size.... folds only twice... and has to fit in my purse.

It has to have less spokes inside and should be easy to snap close without jamming my fingers.

It should be secured tight with a velcro snap for a faster folding up time.

A bookstore is not the likely place to find my perfect umbrella but that is exactly where I found mine. Thank you, National Bookstore! :)) Now I never leave the house without my umbrella.

Banana Leaf Asian Cafe

If you are into Southeast Asian cuisine, then Banana Leaf Asian Cafe is where you should be dining. Good service, great food, pleasant ambiance... you will get it there.

The table is set not with ceramic plates but banana leaves!

Their fried rice (Nasi Goreng???) was so good! It was almost a complete dish in itself.

Although their Malayan Chicken Curry was quite ordinary, the flavors and spices are rich and creamy.

The Stir Fried Chinese Turnip Cake with Beansprouts and Chives was delightful! It is a must that you try this!

The Tilapia Fillet with Sambal Sauce was also a favorite.

Their Malayan Beef Rendang was likewise good! Tender beef cooked in and with coconut!

Everything was just good it was so difficult not to finish them all!

Banana Leaf Asian Cafe is definitely a new addition to the must-go-back-to list of dining places

Summer is here. And skin care is at its craziest during this time of the year when the sun and its rays are at their most extreme, giving our faces a heavy beating. Thus, we have to always be equipped with our skincare "gear" if we want to stay protected.

I used to be a Godiva fan because its facial cream and sunblock have worked so well for me. Unfortunately, getting refills and newer stocks have not been very easy as some stores don't carry Godiva products anymore. So, I decided to switch to Olay and give it a try.

The Total Effects line seems to be very promising. I got their night cream with spf protection and their foaming cleanser for starters.

I wish they had trial sized tubes, though. Will Olay work for me as well as Godiva did? Well, I really hope so.

Tanduay Ice Alcomix

I don't drink. It is always soda or iced tea for me at parties or nights-out with friends and family. , nothing alcoholic. But I was willing to try Tanduay Ice which a dear friend of mine said I might like because it tastes sweet and fresh.

At 5% alcohol content, I felt safe and comfortable.

So I prepared my photoshoot with an ice-filled glass and a bottle of Tanduay which comes single-served in a long-necked 330 ml bottle. It gives that fizz when poured and it felt like pouring Sprite or 7-Up! And guess what, it had that sweet-citrusy, almost fruity, taste that it likewise felt like drinking Sprite or 7-Up! My friend wasn't kidding when she said Tanduay Ice tastes good because it does!

After a bottle, I definitely felt tipsy and a little woozy. Well, of course, it is the non-drinker in me.

Bring out the bottle opener and start enjoying. Ooops, remember to drink in moderation, okay?

Bagoong Club Resto

It was our first time to try out Bagoong Club Resto in Quezon City, somewhere near Tomas Morato.

Located in a residential area along Scout Dr. Lazcano, it is not surprising that the entire restaurant must have been an old house and was just converted into this cozy restaurant.

We tried their Bagoong Sampler which was served with strips of singkamas. Three kinds of bagoong were served and the sweet type always wins my vote.

For sopas, we ordered the Sinampalukang Manok.

Our salad of choice was their Ensaladang Bagnet. A bit disappointing, though, since there were only a few slices of crispy pork which weren't really bagnet slices, I think. But the plating was good.

And as expected, their Traditional Kare Kare was a delight.

I liked their Bagoong Rice. It was well mixed and not too salty nor oily.

Sorry for the blurry shot, but this was the surprise star of the meal... Inihaw na Hito! It was cooked and spiced very well. I am not a hito fan but this was hard not to like!

Bagoong Club is a great place to go to if you want those native dishes, cooked traditionally or with a twist.

We were craving for Amber's famous pichi pichi the other day and decided to pay a visit and order to go... and got even more than just pichi pichi.

We ended up having a complete set of dinner for the night for a lot lot less because Amber's is really affordable! Their palabok was good enough...

Their lumpiang shanghai can be ordered (same goes for their pork barbecue) for a minimum of 10 pieces which is good for two.

The pichi pichi remains to be their bestseller but it is good to know that Amber is not just about pichi pichi.

Miyako Japanese Restaurant

Godiva Green-T Activ Sunblock Cream

Summer is here and so is the heat! And I'm making sure my face gets the protection it needs from all those harmful rays of the sun by using sunblock everyday.

A tube is just the right size... not too big, and not too small. And it is just the right price at less than P150 for a small tube like this. It is non greasy, hypoallergenic, and makes for a good make up base. It smells clean, too.

It is so handy that you can leave one tube at home and carry another with you when you leave for work/school everyday for those touch ups you might need in the middle of the day.

Red Ribbon's Cheese Roll

I saw this displayed by the counter the other day and decided to try one. Rolls are packed individually in plastic pillows just like their other small items. I had mine served with a glass of iced water.

A thin stick of cheese inside a roll of sweet bread... true to its name. I wish it had more cheese, though.

It is similar to Mulach's Megamelt Cheese Ensaymada in taste with just the right sweet-saltiness in every bite. However, they are also similar in texture, one quality of the bread I didn't like much in both brands. The bread part is too soft and too moist. Almost too chewy like it needed several more minutes in the oven.

I find one serving bitin. For the hungry, one piece would definitely be not enough. Two will do.

What To Do With Leftover Carbonara Sauce

I made creamy chicken mushroom carbonara pasta the other night and there was a lot of leftover sauce. I asked my friends for suggestions on what I could do with it and got some very delicious ideas!

.... poured it over a couple of slices of warm toasty bread and, voila... perfect breakfast treat!

... poured it over steamed rice... topped it with grated quickmelt cheese and popped it in the oven toaster... delicious!

One of the tried and tested ways to beat the summer heat is by indulging in ice cream. This we did the other day when we bought a tub of frozen goodness. With the many different brands in the market now, picking out the flavor isn't easy anymore.

Selecta's Milk Chocolate with Almonds from their Hershey's Collection looked good. It was Hershey's milk chocolate ice cream loaded with chocolate chips, roasted almonds and real chocolate swirls. How can that go wrong!

Plus, I like the look and feel of the tub Selecta used. :))

And after several scoops that afternoon, we were right about it! We did get to beat the summer heat deliciously and delightfully!

I finally found the laptop bag for my little Asus! I have been scouting different department stores in different malls for the bag that fits the style I want, and after months of searching and waiting, I saw this in Shoemart! Lucky me, it was even on sale that day! And thanks to my SM Advantage Card which had enough points to purchase me this, I got my bag "free"!

My asus netbook fits inside perfectly... not too tight, not too loose.

There is enough room for a few items you need to pack with the laptop, plus an extra zipped pocket inside.

The straps are thick and well attached to the body... The seams are well done... And the front pocket fits the charger like hand in glove!

And most of all, the overall look is chic. Now I can take my netbook anywhere I go fashionably! :))

Supermoon 2011

With only my short kit lens in hand, I ventured into moon photography for the first time on the night of the Supermoon 2011 and came up with the most decent shot I could. I know it needs a whole lot of improvement and practice but I was pretty happy with how my shot came out.

Mang Ambong's D Original Barbecue

When it comes to barbecued stuff, Mang Ambong's D' Original Barbecue is one of the best we have tried. Located right along Dona Soledad Avenue inside Better Living Subdivision, their stall is pretty easy to see and smell!

We always order their pork barbecue which has that perfect blend of sweet and salty timpla we love. And their meat is always tender and well cooked! Pricey restaurants and posh diners should learn a thing or two from Mang Ambong when it comes to making the perfect delicious bbq's!

You get to pick your sticks from their trays of almost-fully-cooked stuff and they would cook it for you to your desired doneness, fast and easy.

Their inihaw na balat is another treat we indulge ourselves in, sometimes. This gets grilled and fully cooked until the balat is so tender it almost melts in your mouth, nearly falling off the stick! Sinful! Just sinful, but good to the bite!

Some of the stuff we haven't tried yet are their balun balunan/gizzard...

We never get tired of coming back. Prices have remained affordable, while their barbecues are so big in taste!

Alpo Classic Chunky

This is Disney's favorite and only favorite food. He used to like dry kibble but after a couple of months, he lost his love for it. I switched to wet dogfood and tried all kinds of brands, in all different flavors, and he only loved Alpo Classic Chunky.

Disney eats twice a day, and 0ne can lasts for two to three days, depending on his appetite. So, I always keep it in stock. Unfortunately, a note on the can I bought just the other day announced that the Classic Chunky is being discontinued by Purina!

So while there are still a few more in stock in stores, I better start weaning Disney off this and introduce a new favorite for his dining pleasure fast!

Eng Bee Tin Diner

We stopped by Eng Bee Tin store along E. Rodriguez (across St. Luke's Hospital) to grab a few packs of our favorite hopia for meryenda, and to our delight, the store was actually an EBT restaurant/diner! Although there were only a few tables inside, the place was clean, bright and cheerful.

We decided to have our meryenda right there and we were happy we did.

This huge bowl of beef wanton was good enough for even four people!

We had a side platter of pork siomai to complete our meryenda. Food was actually good, not the best, nothing special, but good enough; and very affordable.

And so our ube and monggo hopia ended up in our take-out bags for much later.

Going Up

This isn't my usual type of blog post, actually. But when I had my tank filled up yesterday, I just couldn't help but feel scared at how fast fuel prices are rising! (at a rate of almost one peso a week!)

Just a week ago, it was 53php to a liter and now... it is 54.25php! Well that is pretty steep. And rumor has it that the numbers might reach 60php to a liter soon!

Chinese Medicine

I got this cheap at a Chinese Drugstore in SM Bicutan for only P65. I do not understand a single word/character written on the box, nor on the bottle itself, but I got one anyway, because my dearest friend swears by it.

Seal, check... Expiration date, check...

The leaflet inside the box is, as expected, written in Chinese, too. But I could see 'Ketoconazole' written in a couple of lines.

I now understand why my dear friend recommended this. Two words: It works.

Shakey's, Revisited

When it comes to thin crust pizza, Shakey's remains to be our favorite. We haven't been back there in a while and we miss it. So that afternoon, we paid a visit.

We always order a plate of their famous mojos with ceasar dip to complete our meal. Their mojos are still good, although some of my friends think they're not as good as they used to be. Well, at least they are still not greasy, very tasty and still has that same original breading. We still like their mojos.

We ordered two kinds of pizzas but I was only to take a photo of my favorite, their Garlic and Cheese! It still hasn't changed after several decades.

But their prices have, though. For two pizzas, two sodas and a small plate of mojos, we coughed up over 600php! It does seem that we really haven't visited in a while. It is a good thing, though, that at least only the prices have changed. The food hasn't.

Chowking and Orange Chicken

Orange Chicken is the latest addition to Chowking's menu. It was only recently that we were able to try this. I wasn't very adventurous that day so I let my hubby try it out.

I decided to go for my usual order, their Yang Chow Fried Rice (no side dish needed) which I always enjoy with at least two packets of their sweet and sour sauce for added flavor.

We also had an order of pork siomai.

Their chili sauce is a must for that extra spicy kick.

After the meal, hubby wasn't jumping up and down over their Orange Chicken. I tried a bite of it and it tasted funny weird to me. I was never quite a fan of adding fruits to my dishes. This one didn't quite work for us. But we still love Chowking. We will stick to the regular items on the menu next time though.

Located in Little Tokyo, that small patch of Tokyo right in the heart of Makati, right beside Makati Cinema Square, Yamazaki is the place to go for all your Japanese cooking needs.... and more.

Dips.. sauces... ice cream... candy... rice... teas... spices and more, you will find them all here!

And as the title says, it is not just a Japanese grocery. Because off to the side of the store is actually a dinette where you can enjoy delicious authentic Japanese food!

We tried the place and actually enjoyed every bite, every crumb! From the appetizers down to our main courses, each dish was divine and truly Japanese the way it should be (and taste).

Hubby loved this!

Our early dinner at Tokyo Cafe last 14th was a combination of Valentine and early Birthday celebration. We chose the branch at Piazza in Venice, McKinley because the place is a lot less crowded than the regular malls in the metro.

The place was bright and roomy... great interiors (I love the hardwood floors)... and neat table setting...

Their burger patties were very filling. A little on the bland side but I guess that is healthier when there is a lot less sodium.

(Mushroom and Garlic pizza)

Their pizza is divine! Now this is something I can rave about! The crust is so thin and crispy... the tomato paste is just the right sourness... the cheese is gooey chewy... and the mushrooms and garlic bits are generous in amount on each slice!

I'd be back if only for their delicious pizza. I would love to try the other flavors on the menu. I would have to admit though that I do not quite get it why there is Tokyo in the name... The food we tried pretty much tasted like your regular American.

KFC Twister

I tried this for meryenda the other day and I was suprised at how filling it was! I should have had this for lunch instead!

Don't let the seemingly small size fool you. It is packed with stuffing that is tasty, and very flavorful, though it could use a lot less salt, if you ask me. It was like pizza in a pita!

I will have this again, for sure. But as a snack no more.

Parker Pen

I have always been a Parker Jotter pen fan ever since I can remember. I don't know why but I have always preferred Parker to other brands, however more expensive the others may be. Surely, the other brands are just as durable and of great quality, too, but there is something in the Parker Jotter's classic style that I like.

My pen has to be the clicker ballpoint type and has to have a clip, just like all Parkers do. And it has to fit perfectly in my hand the way only the Jotter can.

I love Parker. It has been my writing companion for decades and will always be.

Luk Yuen is also a great place for meryenda and brunches. We were able to try their dimsum treats and we all liked them.

The taro puff was something new for us and we liked it, too! Crisp taro coating on the outside and chewy pork filling inside!

We tried their nachos with everything in it and we loved it. Crunchy, cheesy, and big in taste. We will try their tacos on our next visit, that's for sure.

X-mini for Valentine's Day

Rebecca stared at it for a long time, wondering what it might be. I told her it was the Valentine gift from my Valentine and showed her how it works.

I have always wanted to have one for my ipod touch so I was so glad when Hubby got me one for Valentine's! He was asking me what I wanted and I hinted that I wanted something red and something small and pretty like a flower. Well, he got it right... it was red, indeed... and small and pretty... defnitely not a flower but way better!

I love my x-mini... it is very easy to use and convenient to bring along. .. No tangling connection wires, no cords to plug and it has its own power source because it is rechargeable!

And most importantly, sound is great! The x-mini does deliver.

Joey Pepperoni Pizzeria

This was our first visit to Joey Pepperoni Pizza Parlor, SM Bicutan branch. Although the place is small, the tables weren't cramped and the leatherette chairs were comfortable.

We tried their lunch meals which came with a glass of iced tea, reasonably priced at 99php. Hubby ordered the Hungarian Sausage rice and I picked the Pasta Bolognese.

Serving size is a bit small for the hungry diner, but over all, food was okay. I am not exactly jumping up and down over it but 'twas alright. I am quite positive that we would be back sometime soon. And next time, I will make sure to try their pizzas. Afterall, it is a pizzeria, right?

Starbucks' Banoffee Pie

I am surely one of the very few who go to Starbucks not for the caffeine fix but for the sugar fix. I love SB's Banoffee Pie! All the way from its cream topping, to its banana filling slathered with generous amount of toffee, down to the firm graham crust! All the flavors and the textures blend together to give me that perfect bite each time I dig my spoon into it.

It is just the right size for me. Sharing is not an option, by the way. :)

The Toffee Nut Latte went well with the pie. I would have been happy and contented, though, even without it.

Beard Papa's Cream Puffs

I have read and heard about this a long time ago; yet, it was only lately that I got to try it. And my, I have been missing so much all this time! And since that first time, I have been tripping back to Beard Papa's whenever I can.

The bag says it all... it is fresh and natural... Each puff is filled with the cream only upon ordering. I love the baked puff shells that go perfectly with the not so sweet but oh so creamy custard cream filling!

It takes a lot of self restraint whenever I buy a bag of these heavenly goodies to keep myself from munching on 'em right away because I chill them first. I enjoy them more when chilled.

Pappa Roti is one of the newly opened food spots in SM Bicutan. I have tried a couple of other roti buns in the Metro. And to be honest, they all taste the same to me.

Good thing, though, they all taste great. Crusty coffee flavored shell that houses the warm and soft creamy buttered bread in its core.... It is a snack and a dessert in one, and not just for coffee lovers out there.

As long as it is freshly baked, warm and smelling oh so heavenly of coffee and bread, any brand is fine by me.

Why spend much on a hot cup of brewed coffee when you can enjoy it for a lot lot less!

I usually order extra packets of these because I want my caffeine fix sweeter and creamier.

French Baker

This is probably one of the long overdue posts coming up on my blog.... so long ago was this visit to French Baker that I don't even remember when this was! But, of course, the food and the taste are never forgotten.

I treated my parents out to lunch that day and French Baker was the most accessible place that time. I had the Quiche Lorraine Soup and Salad... either I wasn't really very hungry that time or the quiche was a bit dry and salty.

My mom ordered her favorite, the Chicken A La King, which she couldn't wait to dive into, thus, the messed up shell in the photo, hahaha... It still remains to be her favorite.

And this was my Dad's order, his favorite the Koren Beef BBQ in casserole; very flavorful, not too spicy, and the beef slices are so tender.

It was a good lunch, overall. We will go for the pastries next time.

7-11's French Vanilla Cappuccino

When a dear friend suggested that I try 7-11's French Vanilla Cappuccino, I am glad I did. I am not a coffee lover but this has got to be one of the better tasting caffeine fixes I have ever tried... and certainly one of the cheaper ones at 40php a cup! I am hooked!
