Durian

I was ecstatic to hear that there was a Durian Festival in Quezon Memorial Circle. And when my father in law wanted to go and see, I was even more excited!

Because, of all the fruits in the country, this is just my favorite of them all!

Its tough and spiny covering doesn't intimidate me.

And most of all, its indescribably offensive aroma which others may even describe as horrid, mucky, yecchy, yucky or just foul, is simply heavenly to me!

At the festival, it was a blast seeing the fruit get opened right right before you and then neatly packed into these tight (not air-tight though) plastic containers ready to go.

You either love this fruit or you don't. There is no going in-between. It would be almost impossible to describe the taste of the durian fruit. You can read all you want about it but you would have to take a bite to understand and realize why they call the durian the "King of the Fruits".

I just love durian! I brought home 3 packs... and I want more.

  1. I've had durian sweets and bars and stuff but I've never had the courage to try it fresh. Your enthusiasm makes it seem so delicious and enticing though. Maybe I should, kahit once.=)

  6. Haaay...I just had durian myself. :) It's something I really miss from home. And every chance my titas have, they send us durian. Bahala na sumakit ang batok ko, basta may durian! :D The house smells bad though, nagrereklamo tuloy ang asawa kong Manila boy. :P

  8. Like you, I used to eat Durian just like nothing at kinakamay pa namin yan. My eldest brother lives in Davao and has a few tree in his farm, these fruits just fall off the trees when they're ripe and bust open when it's too heavy for the nets attached to the trees to hold them. Da langaws and the bangaws buzz around them and that's when we come in, shoo them away and take over the fruit!

I have a gallon of Selecta Durian Ice cream in our freezer.

My eldest daughter who is in college freaks out everytime I eat the ice cream in the TV room coz the smell permeates the whole place and that's where she entertains her friends.

Aphrodisiac nga, pero since my husband can't stand the smell, wa epek hehe.

  14. I have never learned to eat durian - it sadly makes me feel sick. :( But I was surprised when we went to my friend's farm in Davao - durian doesn't stink when it's on the tree! :)

  15. gwacie, sayang... sabi nga nila, you either love the fruit or you dont.
sa tree, baka naman kasi hindi pa ripe ang fruit kaya hindi pa maamoy.
candy na lang and jams, gwacie.
