Dayrit's II

If there is one other non-roast beef dish at Dayrit's that I love, it would have to be their chorizo macao. Served with achara and plain rice, it is the perfect way to start any day! And that is exactly what I had when we visited Dayrit's at Magallanes one more time. This has always been a favorite of mine!

My Mom and Dad had the Tapa dish which proved to be a good choice as well. The beef was fork tender and very very tasty.

And the perfect way to end a filling meal like this? .... indulging in a tall glass of sago and gulaman!

Ah, one would never run out of things to try at Dayrit's and to favorite!

Red Ribbon's Mango Cashew Roll

I love Red Ribbon's Mango roll. And when they came out with the new Mango Cashew roll, I just had to try it out.

There isn't much difference in the icing and the mango-ness of the roll. It is still the same creamy mango icing with just the right amount of sweetness. But this time, cashew bits have been added for more taste and more texture.
Mango Cashew Roll

The big difference is in the cake they used. My friend, who knows everything about cakes and breads, told me that this kind of cake is what they call angel cake (let me ask her again if I got that right).... the cake uses egg whites instead of whole eggs... thus the difference in texture. The angel cake is denser and heavier.

Which is better? I still prefer the old Mango Roll. The cake is fluffier and lighter. But then again, it all boils down to taste. Try it for yourself.

Deli

One way of, not only saving, but also making sure my husband and I eat clean food is by bringing 'baon' to work. And in our case, bringing sandwiches everyday for lunch works so well. It may not be the healthiest food around but it surely is the cleanest and the safest, having been prepared by myself and in my own kitchen.

I buy two kinds of cold cuts from this deli store nearby and that should last us for a whole week. I am glad that there a lot of choices and varieties to pick from...

A slice or two of these, in wheat bread or raisin bread slices, with a dollop of mayo spread, a slice of tomato and a piece of lettuce... that is power lunch.... Tipid pa!

Itlog Na Maalat

Eggs can't get any more Filipino than this... they're red... and yes, they're salty. Always a welcome attraction in every breakfast... mixed with chopped onions and tomatoes, it delights every Pinoy every morning when enjoying their tuyo or daing na bangus!

Some love the whites.... i love the yolk....

They say that the best itlog na maalat hails from Pateros.... and when I saw this at Tiendesitas last week, I grabbed a pack right away. And, what they say is oh so true.

Serye

We were in the mood for some native chow on that Sunday when we went to the Flora Filipina Expo '09. near the Quezon City Hall grounds. So after exploring the Expo, Serye Restaurant & Cafe located at the Quezon Memorial Cirle was the best and nearest choice we had.

Serye is a dining place that is both old and new... new, because its branches are among the new places I have seen sprouting around the Metro in the last couple of years... and old, because from what I have heard, Serye is owned and managed by the same family that is behind the success of the Aristocrat Restaurant... definitely not new in the food business, good food business, i.e.Justify Full

The interiors was impressive... woody, bright, cozy and clean.

They have their own line of condiments available for the diners.

Our orders... Sweet and Sour Fish, Kare Kare, Lechon Kawali with both their plain and their famous java rice... The food was cooked well, timplang pinoy talaga, and the servings size was just right.

Did we like Serye? You be the judge.

Will we come back for more? Oh, most definitely yes.

Teriyaki Boy II

Being used to the menu and its affordability are probaly two of the reasons we go back to some restaurants over and over. Teriyaki Boy is one of them.

Mainstays would be their Chicken Teriyaki don and their California Maki... we never go wrong with these dishes.

But it doesn't hurt to try and discover items on the menu that turn out better than expected. The Agedashi Tofu seemed to be a healthy dish so I decided to order it. It was really good... soft, very tasty, very healthy... this Agedashi Tofu will surely be added to the list of my mainstays next time.

It was so good I am even craving for one right now as I'm writing this... I can't wait to be back...

Flora Filipina Expo 2009

Entering the Flora Filipina Expo 2009 was a breath of fresh air... it was like taking a walk in paradise right in the heart of the Metro. Get surrounded with the beauty of flowers and more...

The expo was a haven for photography lovers like me. And these snapshots are all that I need to show why.
