Talangka and Taba

Talangka is one of the Filipino dishes I do not often get to eat. That is why I do enjoy it whenever I get the chance.
Rui and Suu were both confused why their crabs were so small! They look like baby crabs really. It confused me to when I was young. Hahaha...

But for those who love to have talangka every day, everywhere, there is the bottled taba ng talangka in the groceries and markets. And for me, the best brand around is Navarro's. I pick the premium variety which is pure, no "halo".

It is pure unadulterated goodness of taba ng talangka!

This is how I enjoy mine... I mash about a tablespoon of it onto my hot steaming heap of rice and mix... and I have got myself one delicious treat!

  1. How I love talangka! Sadly, it's hard to come by these days. When I was younger, we'd have it every year- I think at about this time, too.

    I miss talangka. :-(

  3. Love this stuff gita with patis-mansi. I so miss the steamed(halabos?) ones dipped in vinegar & bagoong too. Wala dito niyan. A treat for me here in place of alimango & talangka would be soft-shell Maryland crab(alimasag). DYK that they cost about $5 each na! Pricey but good. Hope someone can bring me Navarro's premium TNT someday...haaay!

  4. Once upon a time, one of my mom's co-workers bestowed upon us two bottles of talangka fat. Unlike the commonly bought bottles of talangka which is probably made from buro, this had thick, fat, spongy, solid fat from halabos na talangka. It had a hint of calamansi and it brought me endless joy, eating tiny bites of it with rice.

Sadly, the officemate moved overseas, and we never ever found out where and how to buy more of the little, unbranded bottles of joy.

*sobs* Give me back my taba ng talangka!

joe, i like naman the buro (yung raw na grayish brown na puro asin lang ang preservative)... you squeeze lang the fat out of the body.. yummeee! and yes, not to forget the calamansi...

  19. Doc, I was at an asia shop yesterday purposely looking for this....it was my first time to be on that shop and to my delight meron silang 'crab paste.' I hurriedly went home and showed hubby but he said color was darker so it might be different....ayun, its from thailand kaya puro garlic pero matabang sa lasa ko, iba pa rin talaga yung galing sa atin.... =(

  22. I also like talangka. I've had it a few times whenever I am in Filipino homes and during my visits to Manila.

But isn't it a bit unhealthy?

  24. My BF uses this for fried rice also, good thing navarro's yung binili naming brand last time.

we emptied the bottle after a dozen or more fried rice days, i'm still convincing my BF to buy crab paste again. I like you, we both like eating. :)
