Krispy Kreme

Thanks to the Drive-Thru outlet in Mall of Asia, my hubby and I get to enjoy Krispy Kreme more often these past few weeks. A visit to MOA would mean a couple of donuts for us on our way home without having to fall in line.

Their donuts give you that melt-in-the-mouth treat that other donuts don't. I still think it is way too sweet for me, though. So I limit myself to just a couple of them each time. No more than just two, the freebie included. Oh yes, they still hand out those free donuts, even at the drive-thru!

Even Yotsuba finds it hard to resist. She likes it fresh and hot.

We are not very adventurous with our choices. Aside from the classic Original Glazed, our other frequently ordered varietes are the Chocolate Iced Glazed for me and Dulce de Leche for my hubby.

He wasn't very thrilled with the blueberry variety because there was just a dollop of blueberry jam on top.

But the raspberry and strawberry filled ones were pretty good.

Movie Night: For The First Time

I was finally able to watch this on DVD the other night. When this opened in theaters, I had a hard time deciding whether I would watch it or just wait until the DVD comes out.... and after seeing this the other night, I was so glad I opted to wait!

I can't help but compare this to Sarah Geronimo's "A Very Special Love" which I just recently saw too, since both were produced by Star Cinema, both were youth oriented, both were launching movies of the female leads, both featured new love team-ups, both were love stories. But their similarities end there. This movie was everything that "A Very Special Love" wasn't.

The story itself is a mess, with too much conflict going on with the leading female character. The script was so poorly written. The acting was pityful... attempts at coming on naturally made their performances even more feigned, forced and studied.

For me, nothing saved the day for this movie. Not the beginning, definitely not the middle, and most certainly not the ending. Maybe they should have kept the story really simple and light. Even for just fifty bucks, I still felt shortchanged.

Vitwater

It was a hot day when I saw this cold bottle of Vitwater at a small sari sari store on my way home from work. The bright color caught my eye... the "It's water + fat-burning" phrase on the label made me grab a bottle!

There are a lot of bottled drinks coming out in the market lately. A lot of promises, a lot of labels, a lot of tables and percentages and calorie counts or discounts to check.

I finished a bottle in one sitting. It wasn't bad. Though I wasn't expecting it to be that sweet. Not much of a thirst quencher. I would have wanted it a bit more bland.

Eng Bee Tin Store

I don't need to go to Chinatown anymore whenever I need a dose or two of EBT hopia! I was glad to find their outlet store inside Walter Mart in Makati.

The different varieties of hopia are there... even the "combi" ones.

Plus, the store offers so much much more than just hopia...

The tikoy rolls look good. I have to try them next time I visit.

These other Eng Bee Tin products are worth coming back to.

KFC Surfers

I was quite disappointed with KFC Surfers that's why I decided to make my own ebi fry last week. I guess I expected so much from this.

The shrimps they used were small.... the breading was too thick.... the breaded shrimps were curled and misshapen after frying... there just wasn't anything special about the dish. Even the sweet chili dip was nothing new. For three small shrimps in one order, I don't think the price is reasonable.

The macaroni salad always saves the day for me in KFC. Good thing I added this to my order that night.

I don't think it is finger lickin' good this time. I'll just stick with their chicken next time.

Sun Call & Text International SIM

Just when I thought I couldn't be any happier with my Sun prepaid service, their Call & Text International SIM came out! I got the chance to try it a while ago to see if true to their promise, I will only spend P1.00 per SMS to my sister in Arizona.

The new sim is preloaded with P5.00 worth of regular load and free 5 mins of international call. I texted my sister as soon as I put the sim in my phone. I wasn't expecting much because we all know how much Sun needs to improve on its signal coverage and SMS delivery time... but lo and behold, several minutes later, I got a call from my sister on my cellphone! She got my text!

I told her to hang up and let me try to see if I could call her back using my new sim, easily and fast.... and again, to my surpise, I was able to, easily and fast!

Who needs a landline when you can call abroad cheaper with the Sun Call &Text International SIM! At $.10 a minute, that is pretty tough to beat, don't you think? Even Yotsuba agrees.

Trust Sun to come up with packages and features that are unbelievably sulit and tipid.

Movie Night: A Very Special Love

I didn't expect to like this movie but I did! I was skeptic at first, thinking that there just isn't any chemistry between the two lead stars. I thought John Lloyd is too mature for Sarah, and their personalities, he being too serious an actor, and she being too bubbly and young, just wouldn't gel.

But kudos to the writers and director of this film, they were able to capitalize on the very aspects that made me think this movie wasn't going to click, and made them the selling points of the movie.

I'm glad I watched this feel-good film. Not since My Bestfriend's Girlfriend did I have a good laugh watching a local film. This film is sheer fun with a little tug at the heartstrings.

Ebi Fry

I didn't know that making ebi fry was this easy! Had I learned this a long time ago, I wouldn't have spent so much ordering this in restaurants at sky high prices, when I could make it right in my own kitchen, fresh, fast and delicious! Not to mention that enjoying this at home assures that there is more than enough for everybody! Hindi bitin!

Seven huge pieces of prawns.... japanese bread crumbs.... all purpose flour seasoned with salt and pepper to taste....

.... and an egg... which Yotsuba thought was a toy!

It was really simple.... dredge in flour... dip in egg.... roll in bread crumbs... back to the egg, rolled a second time in the breadcrumbs... deep fried.... and voila!

I proudly present, my very own ebi fry! Crunchy, flavorful and very delicious! We had different dips with it ... chili garlic sauce , catsup, japanese mayonnaise & mayo magic. My personal choice... mayo magic.

I just know Mon and I are never ordering this in restaurants anymore.

Orchid and Garden Show

It was my first time to go to the Orchid and Garden Show of the Philippine Orchid Society which was held at the lagoon area of the Quezon City Hall Orchidarium Park, at the corner of East Avenue and Elliptical Road, Diliman, Quezon City.

For a minimal entrance fee, enter a paradise of flowers and greens right in the middle of the city.

Rebecca enjoyed posing by the plants... but had the most fun admiring the flowers and the landscaping exhibits.

It was a photographer's haven.

The show also featured lectures and had a wide array of suppliers in the commercial section. It also featured an Orchid and Landscape contest.

Congratulations to the winners. I'm looking forward to next year's show.
